Selected Quranic verses

﴿ ٱلَّذِي جَمَعَ مَالٗا وَعَدَّدَهُۥ ﴾

who amasses wealth and counts it over and again[1]...

﴿ يَحۡسَبُ أَنَّ مَالَهُۥٓ أَخۡلَدَهُۥ ﴾

thinking that his wealth will make him live foreve...

﴿ كَلَّاۖ لَيُنۢبَذَنَّ فِي ٱلۡحُطَمَةِ ﴾

No indeed! He will surely be cast into the Crushin...

﴿ وَمَآ أَدۡرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلۡحُطَمَةُ ﴾

and how do you know what the Crushing Fire is?

﴿ نَارُ ٱللَّهِ ٱلۡمُوقَدَةُ ﴾

It is the kindled Fire of Allah,

﴿ ٱلَّتِي تَطَّلِعُ عَلَى ٱلۡأَفۡـِٔدَةِ ﴾

which reaches the hearts[3].

﴿ إِنَّهَا عَلَيۡهِم مُّؤۡصَدَةٞ ﴾

It will be closed down upon them,

﴿ فِي عَمَدٖ مُّمَدَّدَةِۭ ﴾

locked with towering columns[4].

﴿ أَلَمۡ تَرَ كَيۡفَ فَعَلَ رَبُّكَ بِأَصۡحَٰبِ ٱلۡفِيلِ ﴾

Have you not seen how your Lord dealt with the peo...

﴿ أَلَمۡ يَجۡعَلۡ كَيۡدَهُمۡ فِي تَضۡلِيلٖ ﴾

Did He not turn their scheme into a total loss[2]?

﴿ وَأَرۡسَلَ عَلَيۡهِمۡ طَيۡرًا أَبَابِيلَ ﴾

He sent against them swarms of birds,

﴿ تَرۡمِيهِم بِحِجَارَةٖ مِّن سِجِّيلٖ ﴾

pelting them with stones of baked clay,
